Summit

Summit is a 2-Dimensional platformer game where the player, who is a mountain climber, and their pet bird, a pigeon with a red collar, ascend a mountain together.

The player is only able to jump and move, but with the help of their pet bird perched on their head, can double-jump. Using these mechanics, players have to progress through three levels filled with obstacles like pitfalls, spikes, and falling boulders to reach the summit of the mountain and enjoy the view from the top.

Level Designer

In plan, Summit is a 4-week team project create as a part of Northeastern University’s GSND program. I am responsible for the level design from original plan to the actual construction, from placing every single block to tweaking small detail like variable fall time of the falling platform.

I also taken the role of creating tilemap asset to build the level, I will recolor some royalty free asset to make them fit the “winter” theme of the game, as well as drawing some asset like the rope-bridge and falling platform.

n. the haunting sense of mystery infused into certain random details that beckons you to wonder how it ended up here at this point in time…

——The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows.

The goal of Summit is to create the aesthetic of ecsis, which is defined as a solitary experience a person wishes they could have shared with someone else. This is achieved through the mechanical loss and emotional loss of the pet bird, as the sprite and sounds from it disappear as well as the double-jump ability, causing the player to desire they had the bird with them for multiple reasons.

The game is intended to be a sensational experience, achieving this through a blend of visuals and sounds, and players that enjoy games like “A Short Hike” and “Adios” will enjoy Summit.
